Men AA
Women AA
Men A
Women A The men's AA division was full with 16 teams playing. The standard was very high and the spectators cheered to a lot of long and hard fought rallies. The tension eclipsed definitely in the final where Christoph Gruenaug and Francesco Riginelli faced Lefu Leaupepe and Tom Giese - both passing undefeated through the winners bracket to the finals. Every ball was battled out and Frank and Chris managed to get a close win of the first set with 21:19. Lefu and Tom did not take that this easy and fought back on many points in the second set - defended to game points and won the second set 22:20. The final set was again a head to head battle Chris and Frank managed to push a tiny head start through to win the final set 15:12. This is the second win for Chris and the first win of a NBVA event for Frank. The women's AA division was set strong with our National (U23) Junior Champion Katie Bartoli and her partner Eliza Dean, last years National Tour Champions Natalie Frostick and Hannah Rohkamper, an international team visiting from the USA - Michelle Remus and Jennelle Koester and U23 Junior Champion Mariafe Artacho del Solar teaming up with Pip Soulsby. There where many upsets through out the day as Katie and Eliza beat the AVP girls in the quarter final and subsequently took out Hannah and Nat in the semi final in a tight three setter (21:14, 16:21 and 15:13). The other finalist - Ines Glas and Sabine Link - managed to produce on of their best games against Mariafe and Pip in the semifinal. The won in three hard fought sets (21:16, 20:22 & 15:11) and stood in their first final of an NBVA event this season. Katie and Eliza started of on the wrong foot in the final with facing 4:10 after only 5 minutes. They managed to get their game up and turned it around to 21:18 win in the first set. After this comeback they did not bother long and took out the second set 21:16 and sailed home to a smooth second win of an NBVA event. Phil Young and Nick De Roos managed to take out the men's A division in a very tight and hard fought game in three sets (14:21, 21:19 & 16:14) versus Stefan Duley and his partner Martin Herold. Maria Hedgarde and Sofie Bjellerup won over Timi Nagy and Therasa Jazowy in the women's A division - 21:12 and 21:7. The next event - NBVA #7 - will be on Sunday, 22/02/2009. |
